The new iPad Mini 2 was the other big news that everyone was waiting for at the Apple event on Tuesday. The iPad Mini 2 has some modifications.

The big news is that it finally gets the long awaited retinal display. It will be the same 7.9 inches but it gets a 2048 by 1536 pixel display giving it 4x the resolution of the original. The improved resolution means that you can now use the same apps on the mini 2 as on the iPad 3, 4, and the new iPad Air.

Like its bigger brethren it will run an A7 chip. The new model is 4x faster than its predecessor with graphics running 8x faster. No improvements have been made to the battery life at 10 hours.

The new iPad mini 2 is very slightly thicker, running at 7.5mm versus the previous 7.2mm. The Wi-Fi version weighs 331g, which is 23g heavier than the original. The Wi-Fi + Cellular gained 29g.

This new mini also gets MIMO Wi-Fi support and extended LTE bands (on LTE models). It will only be available in black or white. Pricing starts at $399 for 16GB and it will arrive in stores sometime in November.
