American retailing company Target Corp. announced Friday that it will sell Apple’s iPad tablet computer at its 1,743 stores across the United States starting October 3rd.

Target also announced that beginning October 17, consumers who have Target store credit cards will be eligible for a 5 percent discount on an iPad purchase. The company will sell the 16GB, 32GB and the 64GB models of both Wi-Fi and 3G versions of the iPad.

Until now, Apple sold the iPad directly from Apple stores, the Apple Website and through electronics retailer Best Buy.

Also, Tech Data Corporation revealed Thursday that Apple has allowed it to sell the iPad to its customers for the first time. Tech Data is a major Apple distributor, providing products including Macs, iPods and Apple TV to IT solution providers in over 100 countries.

Apple is obviously trying to increase availability for the iPad ahead of the holiday season.
