Podcasts will get a dedicated app with iOS 6 (Rumor)

The beta version of iOS 6 has revealed that podcasts are suspiciously missing from the iTunes app. As you can see from the photo iTunes U and Audiobooks are also missing.
Apple launched a dedicated iTunes U app back in January and Audiobooks will most likely be added to the iBooks app. A dedicated podcasts app would certainly make sense.
That’s exactly what Apple is planning according to AllThingsD.
[ba-quote]People familiar with Apple’s plans tell me that when its new iOS 6 software becomes widely available this fall, podcasts will have their own app, where users will be able to discover, download and play them on mobile devices.[/ba-quote]
To this point podcasts have not been very streamlined on iOS devices. First, you have to find a podcast by going to the More section in the iTunes app, then you must go to the Music app to play the podcast after it’s downloaded. There’s also no options to automatically download episodes, subscribe to episodes, or sync podcasts across iOS devices.
Many people who have wanted more options for podcasts on iOS devices have turned to third-party apps such as Instacast and Downcast. When iOS 6 is released to the public this Fall, Apple may finally give some attention to podcasts.
