Over 55 million iPads sold in less than 2 years

The iPad went on sale in April of 2010 and it’s taken only 1 year and 8 months of Apple to sell 55 million iPads. Apple just released the first quarter results for 2012 revealing that 15.43 million iPads were sold in the fourth quarter of 2011. That brings the total number of iPads sold to 55,282,000 making it one of the most successful electronic product ever sold.

The iPad now accounts for 33% of Apple’s revenue. The iPad and iPad related products and services accounted for 9.153 billion of the 46.333billion in revenue for the first quarter of 2012.
Some other interesting things revealed in today’s conference call is there are already 1.5 million iPads being used in education, there are now 170,000 iPad applications and over 85 million people are using iCloud.
