One Month After the iPad Debut

Apple has announced that it sold its one millionth iPad on Friday. That is 28 days since it went on sale, April 3rd.
The estimate from Chitika Labs was off about a week but 28 days is impressive when you consider the first iPhone took 74 days to sell 1 million. Apple also said iPad users have downloaded 12 million apps from the App Store and over 1.5 million ebooks from the iBookstore.
The iPad is off to an amazing start. So much so, that the two biggest would be iPad competitors have decided to rethink their plans. The HP Slate and the Microsoft Courier were both expected to go on sale later this year. Microsoft has scrapped the Courier and HP is reworking the Slate.
The HP Slate is rumored to be replacing Windows 7 with webOS for the HP Slate tablet. They haven’t confirmed that webOS will be replacing it,but their acquisition of Palm makes it seem likely.
One of HP’s main issue with Windows 7 is battery life. The Slate was rumored to get around 6 hours off of a charge, fine for a laptop but no where near the 10 hours with the iPad.
Apple’s success is causing a lot of tablet entrants to rethink what they’re bringing to market and how consumers will use it. Apple is redefining what a tablet should do.
