iPad 3 to launch on Steve Jobs birthday?

According to a report from Focus Taiwan, the iPad 3 might launch on February 24 to mark the anniversary of Steve Jobs birthday. The article claims that Taiwanese component manufacturers in the iPad 3 supply chain are working overtime and through the New Year’s holiday to meet the deadline.
The original iPad was introduced on January 27th, 2010 and went on sale April 3rd in the US. The iPad 2 was introduced March 2nd, 2011 and was released shortly after on March 11th. So, February 24th seems to be within reason.
The Chinese newspaper is referring to February 24th as being the launch date which implies the iPad 3 will be available on the birthday of the late Steve Jobs. Apple could also be planning to use Friday, February 24th to introduce the iPad 3 at a Keynote event.
As always, we remain skeptical about any rumors but launching or introducing the next iPad on the birthday of Apple’s co-founder would be a nice tribute.
Interestingly, last year Apple launched their new MacBook Pro models on Jobs’ birthday, although that unusual Thursday introduction may have been a coincidence driven by the debut taking place during the Presidents Day holiday week.
