Apple TV 3 Jailbreak not coming anytime soon

The 3rd generation Apple TV was released back in March of this year and there’s still no jailbreak for the set-top box on the horizon. Jailbreaking Apple TV opens up the device to third-party apps and plugins like XBMC & PLEX media centers, NitoTV, Amazon videos, web browsing and much more.
Jailbreaks are typically released a couple of months after new iOS devices and iOS firmware are available to the public, but with each update Apple fixes bugs and exploits making the devices tougher to hack. Apple’s least expensive iOS device (Apple TV) is also the most difficult to jailbreak. Since there’s no web browser and less services running on Apple TV there are fewer opportunities to find vulnerabilities, making it the most secure of all Apple devices.
With over 4 million 3rd generation Apple TV’s being sold there’s plenty of people wanting the device to be jailbroken and no one wants a jailbreak more so than FireCore.
FireCore sales a software package that’s installed on jailbroken Apple TV’s. Today, FireCore shared some thoughts on why there’s still no jailbreak available.
“As you may recall we were very optimistic about the ATV3 when it originally launched back in March, and while this optimism remains unchanged it’s clear things have not progressed as quickly as anyone would have liked. The biggest hurdle that has yet to be overcome is also the most essential – the jailbreak. While we tend to think of ourselves as pretty resourceful, the security related expertise that is required in order to release a jailbreak for iOS based devices like the ATV is just not in our wheelhouse, and we’re simply left to encourage the capable few as best we can.”
Essentially FireCore must rely on a hacker to jailbreak Apple TV 3 before they can sell their software package to the public and it’s now more likely that Apple will release Apple TV 4 before Apple TV 3 is jailbroken.
However, the 2nd generation Apple TV’s are still capable of being jailbroken. They can be found on eBay and Amazon for a hefty $259, while 3rd generation models can be found as low as $89.
