Apple to Showcase new iPad and iPad Mini
The latest word in the blogosphere is that Apple has a special announcement which they will make at an invitation only event. It is expected that on Tuesday October 22, they will unveil the new iPads, also on stage will be the Mac Pro and the OS X Mavericks. According to AllThingsD this exclusive event will likely be held at Apple’s Town Hall Auditorium in Cupertino or the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. We should have confirmed information soon, as Apple routinely sends out invitations, to the press, a week or two in advance.
It seems that Apple has chosen October 22nd because it is the same date as the retail debut of Microsoft’s Surface 2 tablets and Nokia’s Innovation Reinvented showcase in Abu Dhabi. They want to take some of the shine away from their competition.
A More Streamlined iPad
The fifth-generation iPad is probably not going to hold a lot of surprises for us as there have been leaks for a few months now. We know that new iPad is supposed to look very similar to the mini, it will be thinner and lighter with angled edges. The new iPad is supposed to come with an improved camera and the new 64-bit A7 chip. It also rumored that they they may have the Touch ID fingerprint sensor.
A More Efficient iPad Mini
The second generation iPad Mini will be new upgraded internals and will more than likely be getting a Retina Display. For the fashion conscious the iPad Mini will also get a host of new colors that will match those from the new iPhone 5S models.
Not the only Kids on the Block
While the new iPad may take center stage it is also hoped that there will be an announcement on the release date for the Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks. Apple has yet to name a price for either despite giving programmers a tantalizing view during the June developer conference.
The special announcement is perfect timing as everyone is starting to look towards the holiday season and it looks like Apple is gearing up to have the hot gift of the season. A lot of people will find new iOS devices in their stockings and under the Christmas tree.
So what piece of hot technology do you want to get your hands on this Christmas? Maybe we’ll leave a note for Santa.
