Apple – Second Largest Company By Market Cap

Today, Apple briefly became the company with the second highest stock market value in the world.

In mid-day trading, Apple shares briefly climbed to $292.76. That gave the company a market capitalization of $267.5 billion — enough for it to top Chinese oil giant PetroChina for the No. 2 spot.

Exxon Mobile is No. 1, with a market capitalization of more than $311 billion.

Apple slipped back to the No. 3 spot by market close, when its shares traded at $288.92.

To compare, here are the market caps of some other large tech companies:

Microsoft: $211.4 billion
IBM: $166.1 billion
Google: $163.7 billion
Cisco Systems: $120.3 billion
Hewlett-Packard: $91.1 billion
Amazon: $68.45 billion
