Jailbreak could bring video calls over 3G

// June 12, 2010

FaceTime video calling is one of the most anticipated new features of the iPhone 4. Apple has announced that FaceTime will only work over a WiFi connection, which means it will not work over AT&T’s 3G network or international carriers’ networks.

That limitation could give iPhone 4 users another reason to jailbreak their device.

Musclenerd from the iPhone Dev Team commented on Twitter soon after the iPhone 4 was announced “Apple just gave whole new reason to jailbreak iPhone 4: to trick FaceTime video chat to use 3G (not restrict to wifi)”.

At some point AT&T may allow FaceTime calls over 3G but until it’s official, using FaceTime on a 3G network will require a jailbreak.
