A few weeks ago, Pod2g (iOS hacker) announced on Twitter that he discovered an exploit in the iOS 5 software that could provide an untethered jailbreak. The hacker is now backing up his claims with a video posted on Youtube. The video demonstrates the hack in action, but he hasn’t given any indication as to when the jailbreak might go public.

The Chronic Dev-Team has also verified that the exploit found by Pod2g is legitimate, but plans on keeping the exploit “highly guarded until the right time.”

Showing the jailbreak is a promising step for those awaiting an untethered jailbreak but there is clearly more work to be done before the jailbreak is made public.

Pod2g has not confirmed if the jailbreak will work on an iPad 2 or iPhone 4S. The A5 chip inside of the Apple’s latest devices have made it much to jailbreak by conventional methods.

We will keep you posted on new details about the upcoming iOS 5 jailbreak.
