Once jailbroken, Cydia is installed on the iOS device. Cydia is a third party app store that allows users to download additional applications, extensions and themes that are not available through the official Apple App Store.
What is Tethered and Untethered Jailbreaking?
A tethered jailbreak requires that the device be connected to a computer each time it reboots so that the hardware can boot with the aid of the jailbreak application.
An untethered jailbreak allows the device to be powered off and rebooted without it needing to be reconnected to a computer. When new jailbreaks are released, normally the tethered version is made available before the much preferred untethered jailbreak.

There are many reasons that people jailbreak their iOS device. It could be the alternative content available in the Cydia Store, users seeking more customization of their device (themes, tweaks, etc.) or users wanting to get paid apps for free.

Can I Update my iOS Software After it’s Jailbroken?
If you update your iOS software or restore the device in iTunes, you will lose the jailbreak. The device can be jailbroken again but each time Apple updates the iOS software a different jailbreak is required. If you wish to keep your jailbreak, you should not update your iOS software until another jailbreak is released for the new software version.
Is Jailbreaking Legal in the US?
Yes, a ruling was made by the Library of Congress allowing jailbraking. Under the DMCA of 2010, jailbreaking is legal in the United States. It is also legal in many other countries.
Is Jailbreaking Reversible?
Yes, if you ever decide that you no longer want your device jailbroken you can remove it. Just connect your device to your computer, sync, and then restore it in iTunes.
Will Jailbreaking Void My Warranty?
Yes, it is Apple’s policy that jailbreaking will void your warranty. It is recommend if you take or send your device to Apple, that you restore your device and remove the jailbreak in advance of them receiving it.
