Where’s “Slide to Unlock” in iOS 10? How to Disable “Press Home to Unlock” in iOS 10 for iPhone and iPad

Are you also looking for Slide to Unlock? After installing the latest version of iOS 10 on iPhone and iPad, all users noticed this change right away. From the previous Swipe to Unlock, it has been replaced by a simple tap to the Home button. Swiping to the right will bring you to Apple’s new notifications and widgets screen while swiping to the left will lead you to camera. Since all iPhone and iPad users are used to Slide to Unlock feature, it may take time before we get used to performing the new way of unlocking our devices.
How to unlock iOS 10 iPhone Home Screen
After installing iOS 10, your lock screen will show you how to unlock your device on the first few days. There is a short notice saying “Press home to unlock” which means you need to press the Home button. If you also have to enter your password or use TouchID, you need to do this first.
TouchID, the fingerprint sensor for unlocking their iPhones, is still the same. Simply press the Home button and your device will recognize your fingerprint. Apple also included a lock icon at the top of the screen which tells you that TouchID has been successful.
The new “Press Home to Unlock” means you really have to press the Home button to unlock your device, prompt TouchID or password entry screen. Pressing it too much however can also activate Siri which can keep things slower than before, but it takes time though.
Here’s the thing, there is a way to disable “Press Home to Unlock” feature which can enhance your lock screen experience. With that disabled, all you need to do is to rest your finger on Home button without having to press it. However, it is impossible to return your lock screen to Slide to Unlock in iOS. Hopefully, Apple will change it back in their future updates.
How to turn off “Press Home to Unlock” in iOS Lock Screen
For iOS devices with TouchID feature, you can disable “Press Home to Unlock” feature and simply rest your finger on the Home button without having to press it anymore. Simply follow these steps to enable “Rest Finger to Unlock”.
- Open Settings
- Tap General and tap Accessibility.
- Tap Home Button and turn on Rest Finger to Unlock.
This will automatically turn off Press Home to Unlock feature. Once “Rest Finger to Unlock” is on, all you have to do is to literally rest your finger on the Home button and let your device recognize your fingerprint.
If you want to prompt passcode entry screen instead of TouchID, all you need to do is to rest an unidentified finger on the Home button of your device. You can also press it using your fingernail to prevent the activation of TouchID.
The new way of unlocking iOS devices and the complete removal of Slide to Unlock feature has become controversial. “Slide to Unlock” feature was the way to unlock iOS devices ever since so some users prefer it than pressing the Home button. But once you get used to “Press Home to Unlock”, it will be easier already. Most users also liked the new lock screen interface. Your most used apps are easily accessible without having to unlock your device. Simply swipe to the right and open your Mails, check the Weather or ask Siri anything.
