IPad Air WiFi Connection Problems and Solutions
While the new upgrade to iOS 8 brings a number of exciting features to many Apple mobile devices, some users are experiencing a few new quirks after obtaining the updated software. One problem, for instance, is when an iPad Air can’t connect to WiFi. The worst of the issues appear to be confined to the earlier editions of the update, but some devices with the newest updates might also experience an occasional hiccup. Whatever the version of the iOS update, iPad Air WiFi problems/issues/etc can be frustrating. There are, thankfully, a few things to try that often resolve the difficulties.
Check for Updates
While updates are usually an opportunity to correct snafus, occasionally one of them presents new problems. With the iPad Air, updating from iOS 8.0.2 to iOS 8.1 resulted in some WiFi connectivity glitches. Updating to a newer version of iOS 8.1 should rectify those issues. Moving to a newer version in the 8.1 series also often solves a problem with the device needing to be on a faster network to maintain a stable connection.
Network Settings Reset
If a user is lucky, and many of them are, a simple reset of the network settings will correct iPad Air WiFi problems/issues/etc. This step often works because it clears away many of the settings that are at the root of the issue. The network settings reset option is found by going to Settings, General, and Reset.
Turn Off Location Services WiFi Networking
Sometimes, a geolocation service is the culprit when an iPad Air can’t connect to WiFi. In this case, it can help to turn off WiFi networking specifically for location services. To try this fix, go to Settings, Privacy, and Location Services. Once there, look for the System Services. That is where the user can turn off WiFi Networking that only applies to geolocation services.
Custom DNS Settings
If connectivity problems are caused by the DNS servers operated by the ISP, users can try altering the DNS settings on the device. Some users change to the DNS servers operated by Google, while others try the OpenDNS servers. Once the IP addresses for the alternate DNS servers are located, users can input those in the WiFi area of the Settings app on the device. They must, of course, be applied to the WiFi settings for the specific network being used on the device.
As a last resort, some users turn to a full restore of the device. It is not the first choice for many users, but it is advisable for the most serious issues. It is also wise to take a backup before undergoing a full restore.
It is often helpful to research commonly known issues with a version of iOS that is soon to be installed on a device. It can also be beneficial to see if there are known issues with a specific model of a device trying to run a new version of iOS. Some iPad Air WiFi problems/issues/etc might be limited to specific editions of the device. No matter the version of the device, though, it is best to try the simpler solutions first when an iPad Air can’t connect to WiFi.
