  • Photos have advanced computer vision
  • Better Maps
  • New interface for Apple Music app
  • New Home app to control home accessories

iOS 10 was launched on September 13, 2016 and you can easily update your iPhone and iPad for free if it is compatible.

Backup First before Upgrading your Device

Before you start updating your device, make sure that you fully backed up to iCloud or you can use your PC via iTunes. This is to ensure that if anything goes wrong, you would not lose any data such as contacts, photos, videos, documents and others. And, it is also troublesome to start all over again from scratch just because something went wrong. You’ll need to install previous apps again, sync contacts or add email accounts and enter corresponding passwords.

Make a full backup via iTunes and click encrypt backup box. Your apps and passwords will be saved and you can easily restore them once you are done. Your PC also needs to be authorized so you will be prompted to sign in to back up your apps.

Make Sure Your Device Has Enough Space to Update to iOS 10

If your device is currently on iOS 8 or 9, or even 7, check your apps first if some of them are still out-of-date which may not work on the latest version. Make sure that your financial or banking apps are also ready for iOS 10.

Make sure that you also have enough space to get the latest update. It may require you to have at least 1.5 GB of free storage for temporarily storing the download when updating. To check if you have enough space, go to Settings and tap General. Tap Usage and you can see all apps that are using your storage.

iOS 10 update is automatically available on your iPhone or iPad and ready to download and install. All you have to do is to go to settings and check if it is already available and you can download it in no time.

Step 1: Go to Settings, tap General and tap Software Update. This step will make your device check for the latest update. Usually, there is an alert showing that iOS 10 is ready to download. If that’s the case, all you need to do is to tap Download.

Step 2: Tap Download and Install.

Step 3: Enter your Password if prompted.

Step 4: Tap Agree to the Terms and Conditions.

Step 5: Tap Agree again to confirm. Your iPhone or iPad will start downloading the new version.

Step 6: Leave it to download in the background.

Note: Older versions of iPhones and iPads may not acquire some features of the iOS 10 such as raise to wake or Photos memories.

The iOS 10 update does NOT work on older iPhones, even when prompted manually using iTunes on a computer. If you don’t have an answer to someone’s problem, don’t provide misleading information in order to gain readers.
