Reduce Cellular Data Usage on iPhone 7 Plus in iOS 10 – App Using Too Much Data

1. Set Few Apps to Use Cellular Data
If you have Wi-Fi at home and you need Cellular Data when you are outside or for work, make sure that not all apps are using mobile data. To turn off other apps that can consume your mobile data:
- Go to Settings
- Tap Cellular Data / Mobile Data.
- Scroll down to see all the apps and turn off those that you do not want to use your data.
2. Disable Background App Refresh
If the Background App Refresh feature is enabled, it does not only consume your battery but also your cellular data. It is best to turn it off to prevent open apps from running in the background. To turn off background app refresh:
- Go to Settings

5. Disable Automatic Downloads of Updates

- Go to Settings

- Go to Settings
- Select Messages. Scroll down and turn off the switch next to Low Quality Image Mode.
8. Use Low Quality when Watching Netflix
If you are watching Netflix using cellular data, it is best to use low quality mode to reduce your mobile data usage. To do this:
- Go to com and click Playback Settings.
- Select Low quality which only uses 0.3 GB per hour.
9. Turn off AutoPlay Videos to Reduce Cellular Data Usage
This is very important as autoplay videos can consume a lot of your data usage. There are apps like Facebook that plays videos automatically even if you are using your mobile data. If you are using apps like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and others, make sure that you disable AutoPlay Videos in Settings.
- For Facebook, go to Settings > Account Settings > Videos and Photos > Video Settings > Auto-Play. Now you can choose to select On Wi-Fi Connections Only or Never Auto-Play Videos.
- For Instagram, go to your profile and tap Gear > Mobile Data Use > turn on Use Less Data.
- For Twitter, go to your provide and tap Gear > Settings > Data >Video AutoPlay. Here you can choose Never Play Videos Automatically or Use Wi-Fi Only.
10. Turn off Cellular Data When Not in Used
When you are not using cellular data, it is best to turn it off in the meantime to reduce cellular data usage. To turn off cellular data:
- Go to Settings
- Tap Cellular Data / Mobile Data and tap the switch to turn it off.
