There are many iPhone 7 and 7 Plus owners who have been reporting that the 3D touch feature is not working on their devices. To solve this issue, the have provided some of the possible solutions that can help you fix the problem.
How to Fix 3D Touch Not Working on iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus
These are the basic troubleshooting techniques that have helped iPhone users in solving the 3D Touch not working issue.
1. Make sure 3D Touch is ON
Before you go any further, make sure that the 3D Touch feature is enabled. If someone knows your passcode, he or she might have turned off the feature. It is also possible that you accidentally turned it off. To check if 3D Touch is on:
Step 1: From Home screen, open Settings app and tap General.
Step 2: Tap Accessibility. Scroll down and select 3D Touch.
Step 3: Turn on 3D Touch by tapping the switch next to it. Make sure that it is green.
If you are using 3D Touch with third-party apps, make sure that the apps support 3D Touch feature. You can determine if the app you want to use supports 3D Touch by going to App Store and enter the name of the app in the Search bar. If the app supports the feature, read the next solution below.
2. Press Firmly
We are all scared of accidentally breaking the screen of our iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus while pressing it hard, but there is nothing to worry about. The screen is hard enough, and it won’t break that easy. Since many of us make the same error by pressing the screen lightly, it seems like the 3D touch feature is not working or suddenly stops working.
- To solve this issue, make sure that you press the app or notification firmly. Wait for the popup options to appear. When pressing, keep it still and do not drag your finger on the screen as that would not trigger 3D Touch.
- You can also try placing your device on a table and press the app or action that you want to use hard enough.
If this solution is not helpful, try the other solutions below.
3. Adjust 3D Touch Sensitivity
You can change the sensitivity of this feature according to your preference. Changing it to Light sensitivity can trigger 3D Touch easier than the Firm settings. To modify the sensitivity setting of 3D touch on iPhone 7 or 7 Plus, follow these steps:
Step 1: From Home screen, open Settings app and tap General.
Step 2: Tap Accessibility. Scroll down and select 3D Touch.
Step 3: Drag the slider below 3D Touch Sensitivity to Light, Medium or Firm.
4. Reset All Settings
According to many iPhone 7 and 7 plus users, this solution has solved the 3D Touch not working problem. Reset All Settings option will not erase any of your files or data. It will only restore your settings to default. To restart all settings:
Step 1: Open Settings app and select General.
Step 2: Scroll down and tap Reset.
Step 3: Choose Reset All Settings. Enter your password to continue.
This solution should work for you. If not, jump to the next solution.
5. Erase All Content and Settings
Nobody wants to start from scratch, but this solution is your final resort. If all the solutions above did not work, this solution should do the trick for you. However, you need to make a backup first before you start to save all your files and data. This way, you can start up your device by restoring the information and data whether from iCloud or iTunes.
Step 1: From Home screen, open Settings app and tap General.
Step 2: Scroll down and hit Reset.
Step 3: Select Erase All Content and Settings. Simply enter your password to continue.
Before you restore your iPhone 7 or 7 plus, check if the 3D Touch feature is already working. After erasing all content and settings, 3D Touch feature should already work.
If you are still experiencing 3D touch not working issue, this can be a result of a hardware problem, and you should make an appointment with Apple. For more questions or you have suggestions regarding the given solutions, share your thoughts with us in the comment section below!
Rotate your phone from landscape to portrait.
Seriously,
It’s worth trying if nothing else.
Details:
iPhone 7Plus, iOS 11.2 / I had every bit the intermittent issue I read about here and I tried all the fixes. I always text in landscape. Yesterday after 3D Touch stopped working, as usual, I stumbled on this ‘portrait’ fix. It even works with the Settings > General > Accessibility > 3D Touch > test image. In landscape when I touch the test image the gray frame appears but pressure does not make the 3D test react. Rotate to portrait: success. In the day since I discovered this: 100% success. –It doesn’t fix landscape mode, but it gets the job done. I’m pretty sure I stumbled on it because the Effects menu screen is poorly laid out (IMO) and I wanted to see the choices that are cut off.
My iPhone 7Plus’ 3D touch Peek and Pop problem is intermittent and it’s been there since the first time I tried to use Screen Effects. I know the two main tricks, Access-Motion Reduction and 3D Touch no/off. In the last hour or two I’ve sent several ‘effects’ texts. It broke once and was fixed by toggling Motion Reduction. NOW, the effects can’t be used and when I check in 3D, the Peek works but Pop doesn’t, and I can’t fix it. I suspect it will return like it always has. I can’t remember if re-starting helps.
Fixing this by reloading my phone, basically going through all that trouble to see whether it is a software or hardware problem, is not worth it to me. Do I need to go an hour or more without a phone for a test that might fail? Do I need to spend a couple of hours traveling to a store if it’s a hardware issue? Most of all, do I need to risk a bad backup and failed restore for window dressing? It would be another matter if it were a real service interruption. –I hope this helps someone else decide, someone who has run into this intermittent issue.
