Apple may begin licensing Airplay to TV manufactures for wireless video streaming, according to a report from Bloomberg

This would allow users to stream video and music from iTunes (on a computer) or any iOS device to an AirPlay enabled TV, almost eliminating the need for the $99 Apple TV set top box.

Apple already licenses the AirPlay technology to electronics companies including Pioneer Corp. and D&M Holdings Inc., which use the technology to stream music to speakers and receivers.

Apple doesn’t typically license its software to other manufacturers but this could be a way for Apple to expand it’s services into the living room without having to introduce new products.
