Apple releases iTunes U app for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch

iTunes U now has a dedicated iOS app that provides access to the content that’s available in the iTunes U section of the iTunes Store. The interface for the iTunes U app looks similar to iBooks, with a bookshelf that has icons representing courses.
After downloading a course you can navigate through courses using tabs for Info, Posts, Notes, and Materials. Under the Posts tab, teachers can share updates with students, including assignments and to-do lists where items can be checked off as they are completed.
iTunes U also offers direct integration with iBooks. For instance, if a professor posts an assignment, you can receive a notification and be directed to the appropriate section in your iBook. You can also take notes and highlight text in iBooks and see them consolidated for easy reviewing in the iTunes U app.
“The all-new iTunes U app enables students anywhere to tap into entire courses from the world’s most prestigious universities,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software.
The iTunes U app is available for free at the App Store.
