Bookmarklets for iPad

There are some pretty cool things you can do with bookmarklets on your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch. There are bookmarklets to help you find words in a page, view the html source code of a web page, post links to Twitter, define words, and lots more.

Bookmarklets are basically little bits of JavaScript that can perform various functions in your web browser. They are easy to install and add useful features to Safari. You can also preview the bookmarklets by clicking or tapping on the link above the javascript.

Here is how to save bookmarklets on the iPad in Safari.

Copy the javascript in the box you want to bookmark (hold your finger on the text, tap select all, then copy).

Tap the arrow at the top of the page and tap “Add Bookmark”.

You can change the name to coincide to the type of bookmarklet you are saving (view source, find in page, etc) and tap “Save”.

Now, lets find the bookmark you just saved. Tap the book icon at the top of the page. Tap “Edit”, and select the bookmark you saved.

Tap the X next to the url and delete it, then paste the javascript you copied earlier.

Tap done.

That’s all you have to do put a bookmarklet on your iDevice.

Share Twitter

Post shortened links directly to Twitter from Safari on the iPad. Click or tap the Share Twitter link to preview it. You can also drag and drop into your bookmarks bar on your desktop.

An alternative way to get bookmarklets to your iPad is to save them in Safari on your desktop (the bookmarklets work with all desktop browsers but will only sync in iTunes with Safari). Just drag the links into Safari’s Bookmarks Bar and sync them to your iDevice via iTunes.

You will need to check “Sync Safari bookmarks” in iTunes under the Info tab. Then, open the Bookmarks folder on your iPad and simply tap the bookmarklet you want to use.

Also checkout this great iphone/ipad bookmarklet. It allows you to save any bookmarklet to your iphone/ipad without syncing with itunes.
